Reiki for Relaxation, Renewal, and Recovery
Before your treatment:
Please be sure to dress in clothes that are comfortable, as you will always remain fully clothed during a Reiki session. Most Reiki sessions are done while lying down. The majority of your time will spent lying on your back with a smaller portion lying on your stomach. It is recommended that you do not consume caffeine, alcohol, or a large meal prior to a treatment.
It is helpful if you prepare yourself mentally, emotionally and spiritually before a treatment, so that you can be fully present in the session with a relaxed attitude and clarity of mind. A positive mental attitude and emotional state is necessary for your treatment, as these will create a fertile environment for your body to receive the Reiki energy. An affirmation that many people find helpful is "I am grateful for this healing session. I know that I am healing now."
If you have not done so in advance, you will need to fill out and sign a Client Information Form.
What can I expect during a treatment?
Typically, the first few minutes are taken to discuss with the client their reason for desiring a Reiki treatment and to explain what the session will involve. It is also helpful to use the restroom before your treatment begins.
As a practitioner, I strive to make the client as comfortable as possible. Please let me know if you need a blanket, a bolster under your knees or any other assistance to help create a positive, enjoyable experience. Soft, soothing and relaxing music is usually played in the background and, if you find that you dislike the selection, there will be a variety from which to choose. Although there is rarely talking during a session, if you feel the need to communicate something to me, please do not hesitate to do so. I am always open to information and suggestions to help my clients get the most benefit from their treatments.
During a session, the client lies fully clothed on a massage table. Reiki can also be given in a seated position. The Reiki practitioner gently places their hands on or ~2 inches above certain areas of the body to channel the healing energy. These areas include the face, head, neck, shoulders, waist, abdomen, thighs, knees, ankles and feet; never anywhere the client would feel uncomfortable. If you do not want me to touch you in a specific location or would like your treatment without touching, simply let me know. If there are any specific areas of concern, those areas will be treated as well. Each hand position is held for approximately 2-5 minutes, depending on the needs of the client.
People usually feel slight heat or tingling where the hands are placed. A session creates and facilitates feelings of deep relaxation, calmness, and comfort. People may experience different sensations: hot or cold, urge to cry or laugh, sigh or cough. Your stomach may gurgle or your body may twitch, as you fall into deep relaxation. Occasionally, people will experience images, colors or hear sounds. Often, people find themselves falling asleep during a treatment. A session normally lasts 45-60 minutes, depending on the specific needs of the client.
After your treatment:
Please allow a few minutes to get your bearings before getting off the massage table. It is very important to drink some water immediately after your session, as well as for the first 24-48 hours following your session.
As Reiki is experienced differently by every individual, some clients will feel energized and others will want to go home and take a nap. Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions or want to further discuss your treatment.
As Reiki helps to facilitate change, pay attention to any thoughts, feelings and physical changes you might experience the first 24-48 hours after a session. Remember that Reiki provides benefits on various levels (Mentally, Emotionally, Physically, and Spiritually), and as the healing is directed by God/Higher Source, it goes where it does the Highest Healing Good for the client. It treats and heals the whole person, not necessarily the 'dis-ease' the person has.
